# Set up SMS for text-to-join and reward reminders

> Activate SMS for your Rewards Club to get a toll-free number, let customers join by text and send reward expiration reminders and Flash Sales.

SMS adds text messaging to your Rewards Club. Once it is active, customers can join by texting a keyword, they get automatic text reminders before their rewards expire, and you can send [Flash Sales](https://help.riiwards.com/marketing/flash-sales.md). This page explains how to activate SMS and what happens after checkout.

> SMS is available in the USA only and with paid Rewards Club plans. On the Free plan, clicking **Set Up SMS** shows "SMS signup and reminders are available with paid Rewards Club plans" with an **Upgrade Account** button. ## What you get

* Your own toll-free SMS number.
* Your first 100 SMS.
* Text-to-join with an SMS QR code and SMS Smart Link.
* Automatic signup reminders and reward expiration reminders by text.
* The ability to send Flash Sales (charged separately when sent).

Setup is a one-time fee, with a 7-day money-back guarantee. There is no long-term commitment and you can cancel anytime. The current setup fee and SMS prices are shown at checkout and on the pricing page (**View SMS pricing** link in SMS Settings).

## Activate SMS

**1. Open SMS Settings**

In your dashboard, click **Account Settings** in the left menu, then the **SMS Settings** tab. Before setup, the status shows **Not Set Up**.

**2. Try the demo (optional)**

Click **SMS Signup Demo** to experience text-to-join as a customer, or **How SMS Works** for an overview.

**3. Click Set Up SMS**

You are redirected to secure checkout (Stripe) to pay the one-time setup fee.

**4. Return to your dashboard**

After payment you come back to **SMS Settings**. You may briefly see "Activating your SMS subscription" or "Setting up your account. This usually takes a few seconds."

## After checkout

You see one of two messages:

> Your SMS number is set up and ready to use. The message shows your number, how many SMS your plan includes per period, your automatic top-up setting and your next billing date. We also email setup instructions to your account email.

> Complete these steps to start signing up customers:
>
> 1. **Review your SMS Settings.** Check your SMS Business Name, Sending Hours and Signup Reminders, and adjust them as needed. See [SMS settings](https://help.riiwards.com/sms/sms-settings.md).
> 2. **Go to Sign Up Customers** in the dashboard menu to get your SMS QR code and SMS Smart Link for posters, your website and social media. See [Sign up customers](https://help.riiwards.com/grow/sign-up-customers.md).
> 3. **Test your SMS signup** with your own phone before sharing it with customers.

> Sometimes a number needs to be set up by our team. In that case you see "SMS Setup in Progress". No action is needed on your side: we email you as soon as it is ready, and any delay is adjusted in your billing. Need help sooner? Contact [support@riiwards.com](mailto:support@riiwards.com).

> Check your time zone and **SMS Sending Hours** right after activation. Signup reminders and Flash Sales are only sent within those hours.
